I’m convinced I was a portrait painter in another lifetime.
My fascination with portrait paintings spanning the different centuries has been alive in me since I can remember. When I walk into a museum and find them hanging it’s like time stops (and so do my feet), because I can stand there for hours soaking in every one. My medium this lifetime is light and shadow through my camera, however, it is my ability to create soulful portraits that capture the spark in my subject that lives on through the heirloom.
I deeply understand the importance of a portrait.
By the age of 38, I had already experienced the sudden passing of my mother, brother, and sister, leaving me as the family’s last matriarch. It has been through these experiences, as well as in my role as mother to my two son’s, that I truly understand the opportunity left to leave a legacy. I have felt the reality that nothing is ever promised in life even when we operate like it is. I understand how the portraits we leave behind hold the stories within the life lived, whether short or long. Sometimes a portrait is the only way one person can know another.
Sitting with another human being, whether young or old, to create their portrait is an absolute honor and complete passion. I innately understand I am visually bringing to life the unique spark that resides inside of them, at whatever life stage they're in, to forever live on through the heirloom portrait. This artistic expression is a piece of my legacy in this lifetime, so thank you for allowing me to be a part of yours.
I look forward to working with you!
